This book was enjoyable.  The overall read was fast and easy.  Let me just mention that if I had not worked, I would have finished reading this book in one day.  This is more of a bridge between book 3 and 5 if I had to guess than I book in its own right.

Danielle definitely grew the most in this novel, getting more confident in herself and her abilities.  Nicole still feels a bit childish and naive, given that she is supposed to lead the group and make the hard choice, which is really worrisome to me.  Blake, he certainly has a huge chunk of this book in the background (off the pages), but in the end, I really worried before the conclusion of the book that he really was (umm, cannot say that).  Chris played his biggest role yet in the series thus far, being a more integral part of the plot.  The betrayal in this book was kinda foreseen (for me), but not to the extent that it was…  Erebus, hmmm, well he was a great character and I really hope we see more of him in the next book.  His connection with Danielle could be just the thing I asked for in my previous review (here’s hoping)…

The world-building in this book was exceptional, it felt like I was right there with the characters through the entire journey in Kerberos (the prison world of the Titans).  The addition of the greek mythology creatures was incredible – the trolls, merpeople, centaurs, dragons, primordial deities, foxes, and other creatures…

The writing could still improve, however, I cannot wait to read the conclusion to this series.  The investment of time and love n writing the books is clear and we, as the readers, enjoy every minute of the journey through the novels.

Until next time…

Love Always,
C

Book – The Head of Medusa

Series – The Elementals

Genre – Young Adult, Paranormal, Mythology

Rating:
Five Stars

Let me start by saying that I love the book cover.  Danielle is fast becoming my favorite character.  I like her sarcastic realness.  She is much more believable, but I wish she’d find someone who will make her stronger and challenge her to be more.

The plot was good, and although I was waiting for a betrayal, there were still so much that happened that I did not see coming.  I love to be surprised and when an author does the unexpected and it’s done right, then it can elevate the book from enjoyable to ‘holy crap, I love this book’!  And this one was extremely close to that status…

Michelle has a wonderful writing style.  I still think that sometimes there is unnecessary repeats in her writing, but it is a lot less and it does not take away from the story or distract you from your reading.

The Greek mythology was incorporated very will into the book.  I love anything that is to do with Greek mythology.

Cannot wait for book four, coming out soon.  Counting down the days…

Love Always,
C

The Blood of the Hydra – The Elementals

Book:  The Blood of the Hydra
Author:  Michelle Madow
Series:  The Elementals
Publisher:  Dreamscape Publishing
Genre:  Young Adult, Paranormal, Mythology

Rating:
four-stars

The second book in the Elementals series definitely improved overall.  It was still an easy, fast read.  However, the storytelling was well thought out and there were parts that made me want to scream at the characters (which is a good thing.)

The characters grew a bit more into themselves in this book.  There was romance, fear, heartbreak, and action…  It was gripping.  Nicole and Blake are good together, although I wish that Nicole was portrayed with at least a few flaws.  And Danielle will hopefully find someone who can challenge her more.  As for Kate and Chris, I love the slow romance that seems to start blossoming between them.

There was a lot less unnecessary repeating in this book, although some did slip through, it wasn’t as distracting.  Blending Greek mythology with witches is still intriguing to me, and I will be keeping up with this series.  The need to know what happens next is too great!

Overall, this was another fast, fun read…

Love Always,
C

The Prophecy of Shadows – The Elementals

Book:  The Prophecy of Shadows
Author:  Michelle Madow
Series:  The Elementals
Publisher:  Dreamscape Publishing
Genre: Young Adult Fiction – Mythology/Magic/Paranormal

My Rating:
three-stars

The first book was good, well written.  At times the pace is slow, and there are some unnecessarily written parts/repeated parts that also contributed to the slow pace.

The idea of the story is great.  I absolutely love any stories that have a mythological theme to it.  I will be reading the next book in this series, although the first book didn’t wow me, the ideas and story line is well thought out.  And I need to know where this story is going.

The character development was good, and the setting and world-building were well placed. Michelle’s writing style is interesting, I was roped into the story, and finished the book in two days.  The use of magic is different when Greek myth is added to the story, and that is definitely a unique twist to the story.

Overall, I would recommend this as a fast, easy read.  Maybe something to read when you need a break from the more thought-provoking books.

Love Always,
C
